The first of the courgettes are ready now and this season we are trying out a new variety claimed to produce lots of baby courgettes that you can pick with their flowers still attached. Stuff the flowers with various fillings, coat them in tempura batter and deep fry them. How exotic is that? Also, the first of our four varieties of plums is ready now. Let me know if you would like some.
Bonus bonanza this week! We have so much of our own home grown organic produce available now that we can offer any of these to add to your regular order: Broad Beans, Swiss Chard, Rainbow Chard, Kale, Greek Basil, Genovese Basil – each at only 50p per portion.
Thanks to everyone who responded to the request for ‘likes’ on our Facebook page. This is where we post pictures of our gardening activities at Low Luckens and the orchard at Houghton.
This strawberries are finished but the blackcurrants are ready. Our cherries are in short supply this year because heavy rain at critical times has caused lots of them to crack. We have four varieties that ripen at different times and some are probably affected more than others, however we will have to wait a while to see if the later ones are any good. Our home grown soft fruit also includes raspberries and gooseberries which were planted in recent years. Small amounts of both are ready now. Also, if you don’t get a fruit box, you are very welcome to add bonus fruit – and anything else you fancy – to your veg box.
