Despite a setback with late frost early in the season, the tomatoes (mostly) recovered and are ripening now. As well as our regular cherry tomato variety called Sakura, we have a yellow mini plum type called Miele, a regular size red one called Douglas, an orange one called Orange Santa and two peculiar ones: Indigo Blue, which has small purple and brown fruit, and Mirabelle Blanche which is a pale yellow colour – sometimes described as ivory. Which is your favourite?
Continuing this week: three varieties of French beans (mostly green with some yellow and purple) at £2 for 1 kg and Runner Beans also at £2 for 1kg.
We still have lemon balm and lovage, each for 50p a bunch and there are still lots of mini cucumbers. These are of two sorts: shiny ones and knobbly ones – they both taste great. Bonus cucumbers: now four mini cucumbers for £1. Bonus Whole Lettuces are £1 each. We are also picking Oriental leaves, pointed green cabbages, red cabbages, shallots, courgettes, Greek basil, regular basil, chives, runner beans, French beans, flowery salad packs, chard, perpetual spinach, beetroot and kohl rabi. And we still have Silverskin onions (500g for £2) and gherkins (500g for £2).
