Week Beginning 22nd February 2016

Thanks for ordering early

It helps us a lot – and you are more likely to get what you order – if you can place your order or let me know of any changes by Sunday of the previous week. We are pleased to report that our customer numbers are increasing steadily but it is becoming harder and harder for us to accommodate late orders and changes. Thanks for your help with this.

See below under General Bonus Bag for a Spring Special Offer.

Pak Choi and Miner’s Lettuce

These fresh greens are ready now – let me know if you would like to try them. Pak choi is delicious stir fried with chillies and ginger, and miner’s lettuce makes a succulent salad ingredient.

Kumquats

Try a handful for £1.50. They might look like tiny oranges but you can eat them whole including the skin and seeds. The tangy citrus centre is surrounded by a surprisingly sweet skin. Thanks for your tips on how to use them – the consensus seems to be make marmalade with or without the addition of lemons.

Learning About Organic Horticulture by Volunteering

Become a volunteer gardener at Low Luckens and learn all our gardening secrets! Help us to choose the right varieties, sow the seeds, plant out seedlings, feed them, water them and as they grow, protect them from adverse weather, weeds, pests and diseases, tend to their every need, love them and in the fullness of time, harvest them. A major theme for us is to work with soil to produce healthy crops but also to feed soil life, sequester carbon and thereby create a lasting healthy soil structure. The methods we use can be applied easily to your garden or allotment. Get in touch if you are interested by emailing mike@evabotanicals.co.uk

Bonus offers to add to your regular order

GENERAL BONUS BAG: Choose any item we supply (fruit or veg) and as long as supplies allow, we’ll bring you a bag of it weighing more than you would normally get for the price. £2 a bag. Here’s a Spring Special Offer: as long as we have the produce, you can have as many General Bonus Bags as you like. Order early to avoid disappointment!

Also available now

Pak choi, miner’s lettuce, rocket, Oriental leaves, swedes, apples, cabbages, regular kale, flat leaf parsley, Brussels sprouts, chestnut mushrooms, beetroot, carrots, celery, kohl rabi, leeks, parsnips as well as pears, clementines and kumquats. You can probably tell from your regular deliveries that we have lots of other produce in addition to these items. We tend to highlight our own produce here plus less usual bought in seasonal items. We often don’t mention interesting bought in items such as purple sprouting broccoli because we can’t be certain that it will be available all week.
