Week Beginning 25th January 2016

Kumquats

At this stage in the winter, something more exotic than roots, leeks and winter brassicas might be appealing. Why not try a handful of kumquats for £1.50? If you let us know how you like to use them, I’ll spread the word next week.

Apples – get them while you can!

We still have Red Topaz and Meridian in store but the Meridian will probably be finished by the end of the week. The Meridian is slightly spottier than we would like but otherwise good quality – we are offering it for juicing (and many other delicious uses) for only £1.50 for 5kg.

Marmalade oranges

Our marmalade oranges come from an organic farm called Ave Maria in Seville near Mairena where they grow some of the most delicious oranges in Spain. You can read about the farm and check out some orange recipes here: http://www.huertaavemaria.com/ingles/Empresa.html Marmalade oranges are £3 a kg.

Learning About Organic Horticulture by Volunteering

Become a volunteer gardener at Low Luckens and learn all our gardening secrets! Help us to choose the right varieties, sow the seeds, plant out seedlings, feed them, water them and as they grow, protect them from adverse weather, weeds, pests and diseases, tend to their every need, love them and in the fullness of time, harvest them. A major theme for us is to work with soil to produce healthy crops but also to feed soil life, sequester carbon and thereby create a lasting healthy soil structure. The methods we use can be applied easily to your garden or allotment. Get in touch if you are interested by emailing mike@evabotanicals.co.uk
