Weekly Update – 17th November 2014

We have some bay leaves this week: 10 leaves for £1.50. Grab them quick before we wrap the bush to protect it from the cold. The first chop suey greens are ready too. Also known as edible chrysanthemums, they have an interesting floral flavour – get in touch if you would like us to include some in your veg box.

YOUR EMPTY BOXES

We re-use them so thanks for returning them. To prevent them getting spoiled in bad weather, lots of customers leave out sturdy plastic boxes to protect the produce and the empties. Perhaps you could consider that if you don’t do it already.

FACEBOOK

If you use Facebook you can find Eva’s Organics there. We would be very grateful if you would (in Facebook speak) ‘like’ our page. The latest entry mentions that we are in Cumbria Life this month in an article about apples.

BONUS CHILLI BAG

String them up and dry them or use them to make flavoured oil: 10 chillies for £2. As with all bonus items, these will be in addition to those you get in your regular order.

WHAT’S IN THE GARDEN?

We still have some rocket plus green chillies, cavolo nero, Red Topaz apples, rainbow chard, Swiss chard, Oriental leaves, flat leaf parsley and regular kale, chervil, sage, rosemary and some coriander. Also bay leaves and chop suey greens.

OTHER SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS

We have winter vegetables direct from an organic farm in East Lothian: green cabbage, red cabbage, white cabbage, leeks, celeriac, kohl rabi, carrots, onions, beetroot and Brussels sprouts. The Cumbrian potatoes are Maris Peer and we have swedes from the same grower this week. We also have English parsnips and cauliflowers and pomegranates from Spain.

We have 25 different box types and they may or may not contain the items listed above. If you would like to receive any of them, let us know by Friday of the previous week and, if stocks (and the value of the box) allow, we’ll include them in your box.
