Weekly Update – 6th October 2014

Rocket and winter radishes are ready now – and despite a ground frost last Thursday night, most of the summer crops are still going strong. However, the French beans are just about finished.

EVA’S UPDATE

The September Eva’s Update celebrates autumn in the orchard and has news of some ground-breaking research on mycorrhizal symbiosis – with pictures!

LOW LUCKENS BONUS VEG

Seven Low Luckens items for £5.00. Sorry no swaps with this one – we make up the veg bonus boxes with the items that are ready that week and we save time on packing by making everybody’s the same. And as with all bonus produce, this is an addition to the items you would be getting in your regular order.

BONUS FLAVOUR BAG

Our own chillies plus lemon, garlic and ginger – all for £2.50. Google a curry recipe and get cooking!

BONUS NOT-JUST-FOR-JUICING APPLES

These are a fantastic bargain at 50p a kg! They have some marks but usually just skin deep. Buy as much as you like (while stocks last).

BONUS GREEK BASIL

It’s delicious as pesto and in salads. Two packs for £2.

WHAT’S IN THE GARDEN?

Winter radishes and rocket are ready now. Also: green chillies, Cavolo nero, Herefordshire Russet apples, celery, Greek basil, cherry tomatoes, komatsuna, Florence fennel, French beans, midi cucumbers, courgettes, lettuces, pak choi, rainbow chard, Swiss chard, perpetual spinach, Oriental leaves, flat leaf parsley and regular kale.

OTHER SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS

The Cumbrian new potatoes are Colleen and we have swedes from the same grower this week. We also have English sweetheart cabbages, parsnips and leeks as well as melons from Spain.

We have 25 different box types and they may or may not contain the items listed above. If you would like to receive any of them, let us know by Friday of the previous week and, if stocks (and the value of the box) allow, we’ll include them in your box.
