Weekly Update – 7th July 2014

The strawberries are just about finished now although there may be a few stragglers to pick over the next couple of weeks.

BONUS LETTUCE

Two big lettuces for £1.50. We have lots of the frilly red one, a few green Cos and a new red oak leaf type ready soon. The two you get could be any of those. You will probably be getting one of these in your box anyway so be sure you know what to do with three big lettuces in a week before placing your order!

BONUS CUCUMBERS

Two midi cucumbers for £1.00. The varieties are Passandra and Melen. These are in addition to the cucumber you might get in your box anyway.

BONUS MIXED LETTUCE LEAVES WITH FLOWERS

Again you might get one of these in your box anyway but they are so pretty and delicious why not buy two extra packs for £1.50.

WHAT’S IN THE GARDEN?

There are lots of broad beans ready now as well as French beans, midi cucumbers, courgettes, spring onions and kale. Also edible flowers including Nasturtium, borage, Viola, sage and marigold. We also continue to harvest: lettuces, perpetual spinach, Swiss chard, rainbow chard, curly and flat leaf parsley, Oriental leaves, pak choi, rosemary, sage and oregano.

OTHER SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS

The Cumbrian new potatoes are called Colleen. We are also buying in regular and vine tomatoes from Gloucestershire, watercress from Wiltshire, green Primo cabbage from Lincolnshire, courgettes and new season beetroot from Lancashire as well as kohlrabi and asparagus from Yorkshire. Also we have cherries, apricots and peaches from France and Galia melons from Spain.

We have 25 different box types and they may or may not contain the items listed above. If you would like to receive any of them, let us know by Friday of the previous week and, if stocks (and the value of the box) allow, we’ll include them in your box.
